Several dozen Republicans agreed to back her over GOP contender Mark Brnovich. Some are perhaps no surprise, like former corporation commissioner Kris Mayes and former legislator Chris Herstam, both from the more moderate wing of the party. But, the list also includes former governor Fife Symington.

“I’m very oriented towards the individual and the character of the individual when I support people for public office. Felecia stands out as a really wonderful person and has the right temperament to be attorney general of the state. So I didn’t hesitate. That’s where I am,” Symington said.

Symington had backed incumbent Tom Horne in the GOP primary. But, he said neither decision has anything to do with any animosity toward Brnovich who gained the nomination.

“I don’t know him. Don’t know enough about him. But I really am focused on her and spreading the word that she’ll make a great attorney general. And I’m not really commenting on her opponent,” Symington said.

Symington’s decision puts him at odds with current governor Jan Brewer who is supporting Brnovich.
