New Report May Undermine Some Criticisms by Republicans on Obama's Job on Immigration

Phoenix, AZ – Republicans have repeatedly taken shots at the president and his
administration over the issue. That includes Gov. Jan Brewer who
made this statement in April.

(The Obama administration and his directors, they have simply
turned a blind eye to the issues that Arizona is being overrun by
illegal immigration, terrorizing the state of Arizona.)

And Brewer said Arizona needed SB 1070 to give state and local
police more power to detain illegal immigrants because of the
lack of action at the federal level. But a study by the
Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse shows that more
illegal immigrants were removed from the United States during the
first nine months of this fiscal year than during the same period
in 2008, when George W. Bush was in the White House and his
administration controlled Immigration and Customs
Enforcement.Brewer press aide Kim Sabow said that doesn't mean
the government is now going a good job.

(She's repeatedly expressed her frustration at this Congress and
this president have failed to implement a substantial and
dramatic surge in border security. But she's never stated that
the failure to secure the border is limited to this
administration.)

Sabow said Brewer acknowledges the immigration problems Arizona
face -- quote -- go back decades. For Arizona Public Radio this
is Howard Fischer.
