Much Needed Moisture On the Way

A spring storm will enter by Tuesday evening delivering rain and snow showers to our desperately parched region. In the midst of one of the driest fall through spring seasons ever recorded for the area, fire season has begun much too soon. The Tinder Fire burning near Blue Ridge in southeastern Coconino County has been an early indication of just how dry our forests are.

The smoke plume from the Tinder Fire is clearly visible from satellite imagery.

By Tuesday evening rain and high elevation snow showers will help efforts on current fire fighting operations. Showers will continue through the day on Wednesday and possibly linger into Thursday. Light snow accumulations are possible down to 6500' in elevation. General precipitation amounts of a quarter to half of an inch won't save us from the impending wildfire season, but will offer brief relief. This storm will deliver the best chances for decent moisture in weeks and for quite some time to come.
