Arizona Senate Panel Advances 3 Bills Targeting Abortion

Arizona lawmakers have advanced three measures targeting abortion providers after hearings in the Arizona Senate.

Republican Sen. Nancy Barto's Senate Bill 1474 also was sent to the full Senate on Wednesday. It makes it illegal for an abortion provider to sell or otherwise transfer a human fetus or embryo for use in research. Planned Parenthood of Arizona says it doesn't have a fetal tissue-donation program.

Senate Bill 1324 requires the most commonly used abortion drug to be used only at FDA-approved doses up to seven weeks of pregnancy. Abortion providers now use smaller doses up to nine weeks.

Senate Bill 1485 bars state employees from using payroll deductions to donate to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

All three passed on party-line votes with only Republican support.
