State allows guns in bars

Phoenix, AZ – State lawmakers agreed today to let some gun owners bring their
weapons into restaurants -- but not before they expanded the
measure to also apply to bars.

State law bans weapons anywhere alcohol is served. Gary
Christensen of the Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association
said that limits where people who carry a concealed weapon for
self defense can eat, as many restaurants also have liquor
licenses.

Top university earners could get salaries cut

Phoenix, AZ – Some 2,300 university employees could get a rude surprise in
their first paychecks next month.

The measure approved Tuesday by the Senate Appropriations
Committee would cut the salary of every state and university
worker who earns at least $100,000 a year by 5 percent, at least
for the coming year. Those making $200,000 or more would lose 10
percent.

Governor sues legislature over budget

Phoenix, AZ – Governor Jan Brewer asked the state Supreme Court today to force
the Legislature to send her the budget they approved.

With only Republicans in support, lawmakers approved an $8.2
billion spending plan on June 4. But GOP leaders refused to send
the governor the package of 10 bills, hoping to use them as
leverage to force Brewer to adopt a deal more to their liking.
But the governor said she sees something more sinister at work.
