Vote for Sales Tax Hike Stalls

Flagstaff, AZ – The state legislature will not be able to put Governor Jan Brewer's sales tax hike on the November 3rd ballot. And, a later date for the election may be set. Election officials say the next possible special election will now likely be held on December 8th. Senate President Bob Burns said the later date was necessary because GOP leaders haven't gained enough support for passage of a larger budget-balancing plan that includes the tax increase. The Senate was supposed to vote on the budget plan yesterday, but postponed a vote because key senators were absent. The plan was approved by the House on July 31st.
