Preliminary Summer Weather Stats (Flagstaff)
Monsoon is winding down and I will recap a few rain statistics for Flagstaff here. A very wet summer indeed, although we sat on pins and needles waiting for the rain, following a very dry Spring, with only 0.03" of rain in June. The monsoon got kicking the first week of July and it was pouring by 7/5. Not sure if July was the record or .01" shy as there is some discrepancy in the records, looks like 7.57", just shy of 7.58" record in 1919. The July avg. precipitation is 2.40". August was wet as well and so was September. Here's how summer precipitation shapes up thus far.
June 15th - Sept. 17th: 15.50", 2nd wettest summer behind 1986 16.29"....-0.79".
Still a few days left as autumnal equinox is Sunday, but only outside chances of downpour.
*Of interesting note....official monsoon numbers go through Sept. 30th. The NWS is reporting the wettest monsoon of all time also 1986 at 20.01" So in 1986, 3.72" of rain came during the last 9 days of the month...not directly monsoon but still clumped in the statistic. Good bet we won't hit that number.
** monsoon and winter weather are not related but an interesting stat...after the wet monsoon of 1986 the following winter had 121.6" of snow in Flagstaff.
