Marines Killed in Border Helicopter Crash

Seven Marines were killed when two helicopters collided near the California, Arizona border.

At 8 p.m. Wednesday night a mid-air collision claimed the lives of all seven marines aboard the AH-1-W-Cobra and the UH-1-Y-Huey from the Third Marine Airwing based at Miramar Marine Corp Air Station.

First Lieutenant Maureen Dooley from the third marine aircraft wing says the names of the deceased will be held until their families are notified…

"We need to wait until at least 24 hours after the families were notified.  We need to give them time to grieve, time to have that official notification before we release the names of those individuals," said Dooley.

There were no witnesses to the event which took place on a remote portion of the Yuma Training Range Complex.
