KNAU Holiday Program Schedule

KNAU Holiday Programming begins Monday, December 17th, and continues into the New Year. More than a dozen special programs celebrate the season with stories, music and more!

HOLIDAY PROGRAM GUIDE

December 17
7 pm - Tinsel Tales: Joy, hope, and childhood memories overflow as NPR voices, past and present, tell stories of the season. Duration: 1 hour.
8 pm - All Songs Considered for the Holidays: It's the fourth edition of the not so new, wonky holiday tradition from NPR Music. Host Bob Boilen and friends trade holiday cheer and snarky barbs while bringing you the best holiday songs from new and emerging breakout bands. Duration: 1 hour.

December 18
7 pm - Christmas with Morehouse and Spelman Glee Clubs: One of the great holiday traditions in America, the choirs of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges -- two of the most prestigious historically black institutions in the nation -- get together to present a spine-tingling concert program. This encore presentation features the best works of the last several years. Duration: 1 hour.
8 pm - Jazz Piano Christmas: NPR Music brings you another great concert from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. NEA Jazz Master Ellis Marsalis, Jason Moran, Geri Allen, and Taylor Eigsti, and other artists perform their favorite holiday songs. Duration: 1 hour.

December 19
7 pm - A Christmas Celtic Sojourn: A unique holiday tradition, featuring some of the best Celtic singers and musicians around. Duration: 2 hours.

December 20
7 pm - Baroque Christmas:  A celebration of Christmas music from the Baroque era. Duration: 2 hours.

December 21
7 pm - A Paul Winter Solstice Concert:  From New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine, it's the 32nd annual Paul Winter Solstice Celebration. The performance brings traditional holiday favorites including JS Bach and American gospel -- and welcomes new sounds from as far as Zimbabwe and Brazil -- and as near as the mountains of North Carolina. Duration: 2 hours.

December 22
Noon - This American Life-Lights, Camera, Christmas:  A show filled with stories of people going to great lengths to throw a special Christmas for their families. Duration: 1 hour, on News/Talk service only.
3 pm - American Routes-Red, Green & Blue Christmas:  Favorite holiday tunes, from the hep jive of Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis to the cool sentiments of Frank Sinatra and Elvis and the ecstatic vibe of Celia Cruz and Bela Fleck. Plus yuletide memories from Diana Krall and others. Duration: 1 hour.
4 pm - This American Life-Lights, Camera, Christmas: (See description above; rebroadcast airs on News/Classical service only.)
8 pm - Thistle & Shamrock-Nollaig:  Traditional carols, along with seasonal favorites, dance tunes and verses that have all become part of the Irish and Scottish Christmastide. Duration: 1 hour.

December 23

7 to 8 pm - Jonathan Winters' A Christmas Carol: An updated version of a public radio tradition, master comedian Jonathan Winters presents a distinctive reading of Dickens' holiday classic.
8 to 9 pm - Handel's Messiah: Enjoy selected excepts the Messiah typically performed at the holidays.

December 31
6 to 7 pm - Capitol Steps: 2012 year in review
