EL NINO WATCH (The chance of El Niño is 70% during summer and reaches 80% during fall and winter)
This will bring you to the monthly discussion put out by the Climate Prediction Center, EL NINO WATCH (Monthly Technical Discussion). It is rather technical but the second paragraph is fairly understandable. There are also all kinds of graphs and diagrams included for your tracking pleasure.
El Nino can have major implications on northern Arizona's autumn and winter weather. El Nino's are classified as weak, moderate or strong. Weak and moderate set-ups climatologically have smaller impacts across our region, while strong El Nino's historically deliver wet weather to the region in the winter months.
In any case we will be tracking it and talking about it more in the coming months as we approach winter 2014-'15.
Enjoy summer but it's never too early to THINK SNOW!
