Dems cheer for Obama but disappointed with state bids

Cheers erupted Tuesday night at the Radison Hotel in Flagstaff when TV networks announced President Obama had won re-election.

Democrats who had gathered to watch election results poured champagne and toasted four more years.

Newly elected Democratic state representative Jamescita Peshlakai says she’s optimistic for the future.

“It will give our president the time he needs to get us back on track with the economy,” she says.

But Democratic candidates for the newly created state district 6 weren’t able to ride Obama’s coat tails.

Tom Chabin lost to Republican Chester Crandell for the District 6 Senate seat.

And Republicans Brenda Barton and Bob Thorpe defeated Democrats Doug Ballard and Angela LeFevre in the contest for two open state House seats.
